The USPTO announced updates to its trademark fees, effective January 18, 2025, which will introduce significant changes that trademark owners and practitioners should note:
Single filing option instead of the current TEAS Plus and TEAS Standard options
The lowest-cost TEAS Plus filing option will no longer be available. There will be a single filing option instead of the current TEAS Plus and Teas Standard options.
New surcharges
- Insufficient Information: $100 per class.
- Free-Form Text Box for Goods and Services: $200 per class.
- Excess Characters: $200 per class for each additional group of 1,000 characters beyond the first 1,000.
Fee Increases
- Amendment to Allege Use and Statement of Use: +$50 per class (total $150 per class).
- Section 9 Registration Renewal: +$25 per class (total $325 per class).
- Section 8 and Section 71 Declarations of Use: +$100 per class (total $325 per class).
- Section 15 Declaration of Incontestability: $50 per class (total $250 per class)
The USPTO stated that these are part of ongoing efforts to enhance trademark operations and streamline processes.
